All dogs must be licensed in January for the year. When registering your animal with the Borough please bring with you the rabies vaccination certificate and proof of spay or neutering.

You should register your dog in the community where you reside as a permanent resident. You do not have to register your dog here in Mantoloking if you are only staying for the summer months.

Dogs must be under control at all times. They must be on a leash and you must remove their droppings. Violators are subject to a fine by local ordinance.

   ORDINANCE NO: 431

AN ORDINANCE OF THE BOROUGH OF MANTOLOKING,
OCEAN COUNTY, NEW JERSEY, AMENDING ORDINANCE 403
ENTITLED:  THE BEACH ORDINANCE OF THE BOROUGH OF
MANTOLOKING, AND READOPTING SAID ORDINANCE, AS AMENDED

WHEREAS, it is the desire of Council to harmonize the provisions of Ordinance 403, the Beach Ordinance, with provisions of Ordinance 422, The Dog Ordinance, concerning the presence of dogs and other animals on beaches.

Now, therefore, BE IT ORDAINED by the Borough Council of the Borough of Mantoloking, in the County of Ocean, State of New Jersey, as follows:

1.              Provisions of Article IV, Section 4.10 B (i) through (iv) inclusive of Ordinance 403 are hereby deleted and replaced with the following:

(i)        that leashed dogs and other animals, when accompanied by a responsible person, shall be permitted on beaches between May 15th and October 1st, only between sunrise and 8:00 a.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to sunset, with the following exceptions:

(a)            dogs and other animals shall not be permitted at any time between May 15th and October 1st on the Lyman Street beach access way;

(b)           no dog or other animal shall be suffered or permitted to be in or upon the area known as North Lagoon (adjacent to Bergen Avenue) between may 15th and October 1st.  This ban and prohibition shall and does extend to and include the entire area from the northerly edge of the street pavement to the water’s edge and on the east and west by the lines formed by the extension of the bulkheads, southerly, to the points of intersection with the northern edge of pavement.

(ii)           that from October 2nd to May 14th dogs and other animals shall be permitted upon beaches and access ways unleashed, but only when under the direct and immediate control of a responsible person.

(iii)          That an owner, tenant or occupant of oceanfront property shall not be deemed in violation of the Ordinance, at any time, while in the act of permitting his or her dog or other animal to transit from the lot to or from the ocean abutting the upland lot.  Owners, tenants or occupants of private property (beaches) shall not be required to leash their animals while on said property.

(iv)          Dogs and other animals may be permitted to swim unleashed when under the direct and immediate control of a responsible person.

2.              All of the remainder of Ordinance 403, as amended by this Ordinance, shall be and hereby is readopted as a revised integrated Ordinance entitled: The Beach Ordinance of the Borough of Mantoloking.

3.              In the event that any portion of this Ordinance shall be adjudicated to be illegal, for any reason, that portion of portions not so adjudicated shall remain in full force and effect.

4.              This Ordinance shall be effective upon final adoption.
