Ocean Condition Flag Colors
Always Swim in Front of Lifeguards. Keep Out of Water When Lifeguards Are Off Duty!
Yellow Flags – Medium Hazard
- Moderate surf and/or currents
- Enhanced Care and caution should be exercised
- Exercise caution and listen to lifeguard warnings and keep a close eye on children
- If swimming with children, or you aren’t a strong swimmer yourself, wear a life jacket when swimming
Double Yellow Flags – Elevated Hazard
- Increased surf and/or currents are present
- No flotation devices allowed
- Extreme caution should be exercised
- If you do go in the water use great care, but swimming IS strongly discouraged
Red Flags – High Hazard
- Rough conditions such as strong surf and/or currents are present
- Some water contact may be allowed at lifeguard’s discretion
Double Red Flags – Extreme Hazard
- Water is closed to public use
- Two red flags mean that the water is closed to swimming, as conditions are too dangerous for even the strongest swimmers
